Killed PC’s mum: ’We do not have justice’
PC ANDREW Harper’s heartbroken mum Deborah has blasted the sentence handed to her son’s killers and vowed to carry on fighting for justice.
Henry Long, 19, Jessie Cole and Albert Bowers, both 18, were all spared life sentences over the killing of the newlywed cop after being convicted of manslaughter.
And despite being locked up for a combined total of 42 years they could all be free within just eight. Speaking exclusively to the Sunday Mirror, Deborah said: “I just struggle with the verdict.
“I hope and pray that these individuals do not allow themselves to ruin anyone else’s lives like they have ruined ours.
“I am reeling with how much [the sentence] was reduced for age reasons. If you can marry at 16, why at 19 do you not serve what you would serve at 21? It is incomprehensible. I think this needs looking at. I have to put hope in the Attorney General that something can be achieved.
“Andrew was the best example of what policing is about. We do not have the justice Andrew deserves. Far from it.”
PC Harper, 28, was killed just four weeks after his wedding day on August 15 last year when he was dragged for a mile while trying to stop the teens stealing a quad bike in Berkshire. It also emerged that Deborah is being comforted by Charlotte, mum of Harry Dunn, 19, killed in a crash with Anne Sacoolas, the wife of a US intelligence officer who claimed diplomatic immunity.
The Dunns’ spokesman told the Sunday Mirror: “They message each other daily and have found support from each other.”
The two mums’ sons died just 12 days apart.
