Dad of killer begged for him to be sectioned before shooting

Schizophrenic Alex Sartain, 34, was on anti-psychotic drugs at the time after his release from jail for stealing to feed his heroin addiction.

The request by dad John came after Sartain had already been reportedly sectioned at least four times.

But days later, he used a handmade gun to blast James Nash, 42, in the front garden of his £600,000 TRAGIC Sartain, left, and Mr Nash thatched cottage in Upper Enham, Hampshire.

Friend Tony Bennett, 55, said John – worried by his son’s “very erratic” behaviour – had tried to get him into a secure unit where he had been treated. Mr Bennett, who owns a bodyshop where Alex once worked, said: “Alex was totally failed. His dad feels let down.

“John tried to get in touch with a healthcare worker but heard nothing and now he’s heartbroken. Alex would be fine one minute then he’d stare at you like he wanted to cut your head off. He was mentally disturbed, with schizophrenic paranoia. If he’d been taken in this wouldn’t have happened.”

Sartain falsely believed Mr Nash, an ex-aerospace executive who was also a parish councillor, was a Government agent trying to have him sectioned. Mr Bennett said he was “paranoid” about it.

Sartain died three miles from the scene last week as his motorbike crashed in a 100mph police chase.
