FURIOUS MPs yesterday called for bungling Gavin Williamson to quit in the wake of the A-levels results fiasco.

Labour joined Lib Dems in demanding the Education Secretary go now as a similar GCSE disaster looms this week with TWO MILLION grades recommended by teachers expected to be slashed.

The calls came as teenagers with futures left in ruins by farcical computerised results protested at Downing Street.

PROBLEM Delay means passengers must isolate

FRANTIC Brits racing home from France described chaos as 160,000 holidaymakers tried to beat the clock and avoid quarantine.

But it was heartbreak for hundreds of families as yesterday’s 3.30am P&O ferry from Calais – scheduled to get into Dover at exactly 4am – was delayed.

It means those onboard have to remain indoors for two weeks.

Holidaymakers described mayhem on French roads following Thursday’s late announcement for those returning to the UK to quarantine – around 500,000 Brits had been on holiday in the country.

Matt Barlow, 43, and partner Nicola Booth, 34, from Rochdale, Gtr Manchester, managed to switch their plans and get on the 11.55pm ferry on Friday night, getting them into the UK around 1am. Matt said: There were loads of English registration plates and you kept seeing the same people as you overtook each other, madness.”

Nicola added: “Announcing it at 11pm France time was ridiculous. Loads of people at our campsite had no idea the next morning.”

The Dunedin Consort – a Scottish baroque music group – sailed back over the channel on a fishing boat as it beat quarantine by 10 minutes.

They made the five-hour journey after playing at a festival in Lessay, Normandy, on Friday night.

Another Matt, 40, a teacher from Manchester, and his family took the Channel Tunnel following a 10-hour drive from camping in the Dordogne region to reach Calais.

Asked about the Government’s timing, he said: “They’re a complete shambles, beyond incompetent – they need to give more warning.”

Travel from other countries is likely to be restricted soon as cases soar – on Friday Greece recorded its highest ever daily increase.
