Lew: It’s such fun with Toto
LEWIS HAMILTON is pleading with Toto Wolff to stay at Mercedes.
Hamilton will start today’s Spanish GP in prime position to extend his 30-point title lead from pole.
The six-time world champion edged out team-mate Valtteri Bottas by just 0.059sec in Barcelona, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen third.
Wolff has presided over the Mercedes run of six straight drivers’ and constructors’ championships – but is considering quitting.
Hamilton said: ”It is a team game. There are 2,000 people at Mercedes and Toto’s future doesn’t determine if I stay.
“I hope Toto stays because it is fun working with him, fun negotiating with him and fun having the ups and downs.
“I’m truly grateful to him, but at the same time I’ll be supportive in whatever he decides.
“Everyone has to do what is best for them, their career and their happiness.”
