Bernal in doubt for the Tour

EGAN BERNAL has pulled out of the Criterium du Dauphine with a back problem ahead of the defence of his Tour de France title.

Colombian Bernal (above), fourtime Tour winner Chris Froome and 2018 champion Geraint Thomas are all competing at the Criterium.

The Criterium is the final warm-up event, which will help Team Ineos decide who to select for cycling’s biggest race.

Meanwhile, Remco Evenepoel was taken away in an ambulance after a frightening crash into a ravine during the Giro di Lombardia yesterday.

The Belgian went over a bridge barrier before somersaulting on to his back and over the edge.
