Fury over ‘farcical’ Owls rap
FORMER Sheffield Wednesday boss and shotstopper Chris Turner has branded the English Football League “farcical” for their handling of the club’s penalty points sanction.
The Owls were docked 12 points by an independent disciplinary commission for breaching the Championship’s profitability and sustainability rules, regarding the sale of their Hillsborough Stadium.
“The whole situation was farcical from day one,” said Turner. “The EFL bring problems on themselves. There should have been a policy about not being able to sell your stadium.
“I’m not in favour of any football club selling their ground to the owner. The supporters are there forever and it’s their stadium, but managers and players come and go.
“My biggest concern is when the owner wants to sell his club and he’s paid £60million.
“As long as that price doesn’t contain the sale of the ground, fine, but if it does, then it puts the club in a serious position.”
