Clubs vie for Wood

- BY TOM HOPKINSON

NEWCASTLE and Southampton are eyeing moves for £13million-rated Burnley striker Chris Wood.

The Kiwi was top scorer for Sean Dyche’s side last season with 14 goals.

And that return has sparked interest from Toon and Saints – with both Steve Bruce and Ralph Hasenhuttl looking for more bite up front.

Newcastle were among the lowest scorers in the Premier League last season, with Jonjo Shelvey top of their charts with six.

Hasenhuttl sees former Leicester and Leeds striker Wood, 28, as the perfect partner for Danny Ings.

Auckland-born Wood joined Burnley in 2017 and still has three years left on his contract.
