FOXES GO HUNTING FOR RICO

- BY CHRIS HATHERALL

LEICESTER are chasing down Spanish goalkeeper Sergio Rico — just in case they lose Kasper Schmeichel to Chelsea or Man United.

Schmeichel (below) is in big demand and, although Leicester are determined to keep him, they also don’t want to be left without cover.

They have been watching Sevilla keeper Rico, who is currently on loan at French Fr giants Paris Sa Saint-Germain, and b believe a deal is possible this month.

The Spaniard, who played the decisive final 15 minutes of a Champions League tie against Atalanta this week because of an injury to PSG first choice Keylor Navas, is resigned to the fact that he will not be moving permanently to Paris.

But, with his contract at Sevilla ending in June 2021, the 26-year-old is ready for a move.

Leicester will need to fight off competition from Lazio, Galatasaray and Schalke, but believe they can get their man for less than £8million.

WORLD players’ union leader Jonas BaerHoffmann has warned Premier League stars face burnout in the revised schedule for the new season.

He says that, with international games on top of a crowded domestic and European programme, clubs will have to pull their stars out of matches for breaks.

FIFPRO General Secretary Baer-Hoffmann stated: “The extra demands on players will inevitably place them at risk.

“The greatest challenge is for those who represent countries because there are international breaks for the others.”
