Expert: Virus is with us for ever

A TOP science expert yesterday said Covid-19 will be here “for ever”.

Former chief scientific adviser Professor Sir Mark Walport warned the killer virus will never be eradicated like smallpox was.

He said: “This is a virus that is going to be with us for ever in some form or another and almost certainly will require repeated vaccinations... a bit like flu.”

His stark prediction on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme comes amid fears the country could have a second national lockdown if it sees cases rising like they are in Spain.
