1 in 3 will teach less than 5 years
A THIRD of new teachers quit within five years – more than ever before.
Teachers’ unions say workloads, stress and low pay are to blame – and warn that extra strain during the pandemic could mean worse to come.
NASUWT head Dr Patrick Roach said: “The pandemic has contributed to rising levels of anxiety and workrelated stress among teachers which need to be taken seriously.
“As schools reopen, expectations on teachers must be manageable.”
He said a nine-year low in trainees is leading to a staffing “crisis”.
