Fury at £10m bill to keep terrorist safe

Manchester victims on jail protection

THE husband of a Manchester Arena victim is furious after learning it will cost £10million to keep bomb-maker Hashem Abedi safe in jail.

Abedi is under protection after warnings he “won’t last two mins”.

One Facebook threat suggested he could be attacked with razor blades in revenge for murdering 22 and leaving hundreds injured.

Abedi is 23 and the £5million bill for his 55- year sentence could double because of extra security.

Alison Howe, 45, died as she went to collect her two daughters from the arena in 2017. Husband Steve, 64, from Royton, Gtr Manchester, said the Abedi bill is “a ridiculous amount”. He added: “Most taxpayers would not want to pay for this.

“The police go on like we should be over the moon about the verdict.

“But I feel bitter about it. It won’t bring Alison back.”

Some bereaved families have had £28,269 compensation. Abedi helped build the bomb – detonated by his brother Salman, 22.

A source said: “He will be aware he is at risk.

“He could be on a sex offenders wing or another wing for vulnerable and at-risk prisoners.”

The Ministry of Justice said it does not comment on individual prisoners.
