Putin opponent in Berlin for treatment after ‘poisoning’

RUSSIAN opposition leader Alexei Navalny arrived in Germany yesterday for potentiall­y life-saving treatment after a suspected poisoning.

Mr Navalny, 44, fell ill on a flight from Tomsk to Moscow on Thursday, and his plane made an emergency landing in Omsk, Siberia.

Passenger Pavel Lebedev said he heard the activist “screaming in pain”. Doctors in Omsk initially INDUCED COMA said Navalny was too ill to be moved but yesterday allowed a German NGO to fly him to Berlin, with wife Yulia at his side.

He is in an induced coma in the Charité hospital in the German capital. Doctors there said they would not comment until extensive testing had been completed.

Aides say his tea was poisoned. Mr Navalany’s Foundation for Fighting Corruption has been exposing dishonesty in President Vladimir Putin’s government.
