TAVARES IS HEAVEN TO SPURS

TOTTENHAM are battling Atalanta for £9million-rated Portuguese right-back Tomas Tavares at Benfica.

Spurs have sent scouts to watch the versatile 19-year-old (right), who appeared in 27 matches in all competitions last season and can also play at t left-back or in midfield.

The Portugal Under-19 international has a contract until June 2024 and is rated highly by his club. But new coach Jorge Jesus wants to make changes to the squad and needs to sell first – so Benfica are open to offers.

Clubs in Spain and France, as well as last season’s Champions League surprise package Atalanta, are also in the race.

But it is looking like a straight battle between Tottenham and the Italians.
