Gay people’s hell as crime targets
GAY people are four times more likely to be burgled and be victims of muggings and pickpocketing.
The LGBTQ+ community is also twice as likely to fall foul of fraud, including bank and credit card scams and thefts.
Research also shows that three in 10 LGBTQ+ people avoid certain streets because they don’t feel safe there.
Liberal Democrat John Leech, Manchester Council’s opposition leader, blamed a toxic social atmosphere created by PM Boris Johnson. He said: “These statistics show a distressing regression and it is embarrassing that in 2020 the gay community has increasingly become the intentional victim of crime.
“The extreme and divisive language from our own Prime Minister is destroying the very soul of this country.”
