Johnson leads us into bleakest of winters

BORIS Johnson told us it would all be over by Christmas. Instead, thanks to his failures, we’re heading into the bleakest of winters.

More than 100 people a day are dying from Covid. Hospitals are filling.

Boris Johnson ignored the warning signs. He buried his head in the sand when clinicians pleaded with him to fix Test & Trace. Now the devastating consequence is that Tory ministers in Whitehall have imposed local lockdowns across the North.

Boris Johnson should have followed advice from scientists and used halfterm for a two-week “circuit-breaker”.

He has now missed that window of opportunity and experts fear this inaction will force a tougher, deeper, panicked response later this winter.

Labour put forward a plan for a short, time-limited circuit break.

We would give people help to isolate, and improve testing and tracing. And we would prioritise new rapid testing to allow routine checks of key workers.
