1million more people move to tough Tier 3
MORE than a million people woke up under the strictest coronavirus rules yesterday as South Yorkshire became the latest to enter Tier 3.
As the region joined Greater Manchester, Liverpool and Lancashire in the highest level, Sheffield mayor Dan Jarvis told residents “these measures are needed”.
He added: “Many of you will be fearing for your families, your livelihoods, your future. Some of you will be wondering if these measures are worth it.
“The scientific advice is that they can help. We still have a difficult path ahead, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. These restrictions will help us reach it sooner.”
In Manchester , the organiser of an “Airbnb party” was fined £10,000.
Police found bouncers, DJ equipment and a buffet laid on for more than 50 partygoers.
Assistant Chief Con Mabs Hussain said: “This party was a blatant disregard of the rules and for public health. It is totally unacceptable in the current crisis.”
Meanwhile The village of Llanymynech, which sits on the England-Wales border, has been split in two by the Welsh “firebreak” lockdown.
It means the Dolphin Inn, in Powys, has been forced to call last orders but two others a few yards away can stay open. Owner John Turner said: “I think this is a trial. If they see it’s a success in Wales then they’ll shut England next.”
