MP sorry for slavery gaffe
AN MP has apologised for making a speech claiming slaves were brought to work in an Anglesey mine.
Virginia Crosbie, Tory for Ynys Mon, claimed African slaves “dug out copper” at Parys Mountain in a Commons address to mark Black History Month.
Historians were quick to point out that this was incorrect – with one expert accusing the politician of “inventing history”.
The North Wales MP said it was a “genuine error” and apologised.
