Crummy cake sales in crisis

-

CAKE sales have fallen by 13.6 million in the past year as the pandemic hits our celebrations.

Lockdown meant people made their own or bought smaller, cheaper cakes, market research firm Kantar found.

Daryl Newlands of Finsbury Food Group said: “People are still celebrating birthdays with a cake.

“But due to lockdown and social distancing, fewer are celebrating other occasions, such as office parties, anniversaries or passing a driving test.”
