Xmas dinner fowl for the environment

-

CHRISTMAS dinner with all the trimmings is as bad for the climate as a threehour car trip, scientists say.

A family of six having turkey, pigs in blankets, stuffing and veg causes the equivalent of 30kg of CO2 to be released, the same as driving for 180 minutes.

Half comes from farming and cooking the bird.

Sarah Bridle, a University of Manchester scientist, says we can reduce the impact by cooking less turkey on December 25.

Halving the amount of meat and doubling the amount of vegetables would cut the emissions by around 30%, she said.
