Royal passion wagon could sell for £40k

- BY KARL GRAFTON

A CAR that may have been used for secret trysts by Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson could fetch up to £40,000 at auction.

The future king and US divorcee Simpson are believed to have secretly travelled around London in a 1933 Humber Snipe.

Now a collection of 15 are going under the hammer, including the one allegedly used by the pair.

Alan Marshall, 64, from Hull, and dad Reg, built the collection over 60 years.

Alan said: “I was told [it] had been used by Edward and Mrs Simpson because it was perfect for privacy.

“Thanks to its small back window, you couldn’t see who was inside.”

When George V died in 1936, Edward ascended the throne, but his plan to marry his lover caused a constitutional crisis and he abdicated that year.

The auction, by Hansons, will take place on Wednesday at Bishton Hall in Staffordshire.
