Dogs can go vegan
EXPERTS have backed Lewis Hamilton’s decision to put his dog on a vegan diet.
He has been criticised for saying it has cured his eight-year-old British bulldog Roscoe’s ailments.
The F1 champ, 35, said his pet has been “fully vegan” since July and he’s “like a puppy again”.
Dr Michael Fox, vet and ex-president of the Humane Society, said: “Technically speaking, dogs can survive and even do well on a vegan or vegetarian regimen.
“Dogs are actually omnivores. Canine digestive systems are capable of deriving nutrients from fruits and vegetables.” And charity PETA said: “With the right planning and care, your dog or cat can be vegan.
“Dogs require two amino acids, L-carnitine and taurine, which can be added to vegan dog foods.”
They point to Bramble, a 27-year-old border collie from the West Country, whose vegan diet earned her consideration by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s oldest dog in 2002.
