Medical marvel

-

Despite the doom and gloom of further Covid restrictions, I received a letter this week that reminded me just how lucky I am to live in this country.

As I’ve reached the age of 50, I’m now eligible for free breast screening. This helps to detect any breast cancers which are too small to see or feel.

I will be screened every three years until aged 71.

The facts of this disease are still stark – about 12,000 women in the UK die from it every year. The risk of getting breast cancer grows as you get older, and most women who contract it don’t have a family history of the disease. So if you are invited for a mammogram, do follow up on it. It’s free and it could save your life.
