TO CLIMB Stunning Tongtian Avenue
Clinging to cliffs at Tianmen Mountain (Heaven’s Door Mountain), at a height of 4,700ft, this mile-long walkway features glass sections over a sheer drop known as ‘The Walk of Faith’, and the knee-trembling ‘Coiling Dragon Cliff’ skywalk.
If this proves to be too much of a terrifying way to see what has been dubbed China’s most beautiful peak, try taking the six-mile road, Tongtian Avenue, with 99 hairpin bends rising to 3,600ft! Visitors walk in groups attached to an overhead safety rail via a trolley and harness. Special guides then encourage participants to lean out over the edge, with nothing but the streets and Lake Ontario beneath them.
