MARCUS IS TRUE LEADER

-

I DON’T even have the words to express what I feel about Marcus Rashford’s incredible crusade to help end child food poverty.

Marcus (below) is fighting the establishment and he’s winning, and that is remarkable.

He hasn’t taken no for an answer, he’s not slunked off back to the safety of bland-quote zone and he hasn’t hidden when the inevitable right-wing backlash came after him.

He’s fought and he’s fought and he’s fought. And, for that, he deserves all our admiration and love.

Because he isn’t fighting for himself, he’s fighting for the children who are the future of our nation.

And, in doing so, he’s shown what a grounded person he is, what strength he has and also how he hasn’t turned his back on where he came from.

We come from similar backgrounds and I know what he went through as a kid because I did, too. So, to fight for kids like himself, I can only tell you that it makes me emotional.

It also shows you that, not only can football and politics mix, but that it’s important they do. Because Marcus has created real change in this country – and it’s much needed.

I sat and watched his Twitter feed and it warmed my heart.

So many people, so many businesses, with so much humanity reaching out to help ensure that vulnerable kids don’t go to bed hungry.

It was a show of compassion and shows what society should be.

It was also a mass protest. It shows up the Government – and I’m glad because they deserve that.

No kid should go hungry in this country and no family should be thrust into poverty.

I’ve heard all the moaning about parents not looking after their kids and all that nonsense.

But the truth is millions of people in full-time work are still in poverty because they don’t get a living wage.

That is why kids go hungry – not because of parent neglect, but because of Government neglect.
