Courage of crushed cop Claire
A FEARLESS police officer who stopped a dangerous driver speeding towards a charity run has been given a Pride of Britain award.
PC Claire Bond tried to snatch the keys from the vehicle near the Staffordshire 10k charity race. But the driver reversed the car, crushing Claire against a fence and flinging her 6ft into the air.
Claire said: “I couldn’t move. My legs had just gone.” The PC, who needed months of physio, was presented with the award by singer Olly Murs at ITV studios.
The driver was jailed for 10 years for GBH and dangerous driving.
