PET TALK

With The Yorkshire Vet Peter Wright

-

Vet Peter Wright works at Skeldale Veterinary Centre, the original James Herriot practice in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, and he’s also star of TV’s The Yorkshire Vet which is on Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 5.

QLast night I saw a hedgehog scurrying about in my garden. Shouldn’t they be hibernating by now? A

Hibernation time varies – depending on climate. Generally, they are now foraging for food to put on enough reserves to hibernate

some time in

December. They eat insects and slugs but it does no harm to put out meaty cat food and a handful of all-in-one dry cat food. Alongside, put a shallow, non-tip bowl of fresh water. Never put out bread and milk, which cause stomach upsets.
