MIKE JACKSON was sacked as manager of Tranmere after a fourth defeat in five games.

Adam Phillips’ penalty consigned the hosts to another defeat.

Chairman Mark Palios said: “Despite the fact this is a season which has thrown up challenges that no manager has had to face before, I have regrettably come to the conclusion that it is right for the club to make a change of manager.

Morecambe boss Derek Adams said: “It should have been three or four.”

PAUL SCHOLES has challenged forward Ash Hunter to improve his goalscoring this season.

James Wilson and Hunter scored as Salford beat Scholes’ former side and boyhood club Oldham. “I’ve said to him (Hunter) he should be scoring 14 or 15 goals,” Salford interim manager Scholes said.

Oldham boss Harry Kewell said: “We just didn’t hit the target and if you don’t hit the target you can’t score a goal.”
