Kids ‘robbed’ of childhood tree-climbs
CHILDREN in today’s riskaverse world are more likely to fall out of bed than out of a tree, figure show.
Last year just 482 under15s needed hospital treatment after tree falls.
That’s down from 1,823 in 2000, or five a day.
Official NHS figures from 2019/20 reveal 2,373 hospital trips involving a bed accident, and 1,932 a chair-related mishap.
Chris McGovern, of the Campaign for Real Education, said: “Children are being robbed of their childhood by the no-risk culture we impose on them.”
A 2016 US study found tree-climbing had physical and emotional benefits.
