YOU ASK

-

I have a Daphne bush which I have had for the past three seasons. It has yet to flower. Is there a reason behind this, and what can I do about it as it looks really healthy?

Daphnes have a reputation for being a little fussy but they are so worth it for that wonderful winter fragrance. They are edge

of woodland plants so like a bit of shade – mine does well beneath the dappled shade of a Japanese maple.

They don’t like to be too wet or too dry so are best planted in well-drained soil and a good winter and spring mulch should keep them well fed.

The good news is yours looks very healthy, so if all the other conditions are right I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before it flowers – hopefully this winter!
