Just Chil like I did ...and talk

- BY TOM HOPKINSON

BEN CHILWELL has urged those suffering from mental health issues during Britain’s second coronavirus lockdown to seek support.

The Chelsea and

England left-back has spoken openly about the problems he suffered during a bout of low confidence last season.

Speaking to BBC’s Football Focus, he said: “Last season, I struggled with confidence and the fact that I’ve spoken about it might help others to talk about their problems.

“I didn’t talk to anyone and just kept it to myself for a few months.

“But there’s someone at the club who talks to a lot of the players.

“And I just thought,

‘Well, a lot of the boys are talking to him, maybe I should just go and have a chat with him and see what it’s about’ — and it really helped me a lot.

“If you are struggling and feel like you are by yourself, then you should talk to someone, whether a friend, a family member or for advice on a helpline — just do it.”
