Royals to buy Rams

- BY TOM HOPKINSON

THE sale of Derby County to a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family is set to be completed this week.

Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan’s offer to buy the club from Mel Morris was given the green light by the EFL on Thursday.

Loose ends are expected to be tied up quickly with Sheikh Khaled, a cousin of Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nehayan, assuming control in a matter of days.

Morris bought the Rams – who are bottom of the Championship following yesterday’s 2-0 defeat by Barnsley – five years ago, having purchased an initial stake in his hometown club in 2014.
