FLEXIBLE CALLUM CAN BE IRISH STAR

- BY PAUL O’HEHIR

CALLUM ROBINSON is a ‘victim of his own versatility’ but Ireland boss Stephen Kenny reckons his best days in green are still to come.

The West Brom forward was blooded in the latter stages of Martin O’Neill’s reign, but is still waiting for his international career to ignite after just one goal in 15 caps.

Kenny said: “He is probably a victim of his own versatility. He went to West Brom last year, played off the left and got goals.” And after studying his previous contributions, the manager feels there is untapped potential to unleash in the forthcoming games against England, Wales and Bulgaria.

“When we reviewed the campaign with a microscope – myself and my coaches – we had a look at the games, every element of them,” said Kenny (above). “And Callum Robinson was someone who we weren’t sure what his role was.

“I get the impression he’s a player who is improving with every year.

“His tactical appreciation looks really good and technically he looks like he’s getting even better.”
