Adam is too strong

- By NEIL GOULDING at Ewood Park

COMETH the hour, cometh the man.

Blackburn’s top scorer Adam Armstrong rose to the occasion and did the business again to help his side claim their first home league win for almost two months.

The striker (above), back after injury, bagged a brilliant brace to make it 11 goals in 10 league games to overtake Brentford’s Ivan Toney as the Championship’s top scorer.

And no wonder Rovers boss Tony Mowbray was purring after his previously misfiring team entered the international break with a moraleboosting win.

“Armstrong does what he does, he makes such a difference,” said Mowbray. “We were a bit shaky after their penalty for five or 10 minutes, but we deserved the win.

“That was the result we were looking for. We dominated.”

Ben Brereton’s sweet 50thminute left-foot volley looked to have secured Rovers a welcome win but QPR levelled from a contentious penalty.

Rovers’ shot-stopper Thomas Kaminski was penalised for a foul on Rob Dickie, allowing Lyndon Dykes to rifle home from the spot.

But having earlier had a goal ruled out for offside, Armstrong was not to be denied as he picked out the bottom right corner with a 73rd-minute finish.

Todd Kane struck a post for the visitors two minutes after the break but it was Armstrong who secured the points in injury-time.

QPR boss Mark Warburton admitted: “We let ourselves down.”
