BEN GARNER could not speak highly of Brandon Hanlan’s match-winning strike for Bristol Rovers.

After Jack Baldwin’s opener, Hanlan curled in a superb low effort beyond the reach of Liam Roberts.

Garner said: “It was a top goal. To shape that into a corner was terrific.”

Caolan Lavery set up a nervy finish, but Rovers held on. Garner added: “In the second half we showed character to get through.”

Walsall boss Darrell Clarke said: “The lads have given me everything, I’m just frustrated.”

MICHAEL HOWARD scored the winning penalty as Marine pulled off an upset.

Anthony Miley had given the visitors the lead, before Harry Pell forced extra time and then penalties.

“It’s a very proud day for myself and it’s a very proud day for Marine,” said Marine boss Neil Young.

Colchester manager Steve Ball said: “It was a really poor day for us and I don’t think we really got going at all.”
