SPECIAL K HAS WHAT IT TAKES TO BECOME ENGLAND’S GREATEST

- BY SIMON MULLOCK

HARRY KANE wins his 50th England cap today, with Gareth Southgate insisting his skipper’s best is yet to come.

Kane, 27, has already scored 32 times for the Three Lions and is in sixth place in his country’s all-time goal charts going into the Nations League clash with Belgium.

The Tottenham striker seems certain to shatter the 53-goal record currently held by Wayne Rooney if he stays fit.

And Southgate said: “In terms of what is possible, I think the goalscoring record is a really interesting one for

Harry.

“His strike rate for us is quite phenomenal and he’s obviously got time on his side to crack on and chase Wayne’s record.

“That would be a remarkable feat in itself when you look at Sir Bobby

Charlton, Gary

Lineker and

Wayne in the top three.

“If Harry can get onto that list it will be a fantastic personal achievement.

“But I know from his perspective, while the personal achievements he is driven towards, he’s all about the team winning now.

“He’s been to the World Cup and won the Golden Boot, but in the end you want to win as a team and he’s totally focused on that.

“In the next few years he will want to look back at what the team has achieved, as well as reaching some of those personal milestones.” Rooney’s record haul came in 120 appearances, after Charlton’s standard of 49 goals in 106 games had stood for 45 years.

Lineker, Jimmy Greaves and Michael Owen are the only other players above Kane in the England scoring charts.

And the Spurs star has started the season in blistering form, with 13 goals and 10 assists for his club. NET GAINS Harry Kane has his sights set on Roo’s record
