Tykes do lack bite

- By NEIL GOULDING at Ewood Park

VALERIEN ISMAEL is demanding his Barnsley players discover their killer instinct.

The Frenchman was angered after his Tykes side converted just one of 16 shots on goal in defeat at Blackburn.

“We have to learn the killer mentality,” the Barnsley boss said. “When you are in the game like that you have to score more.

“You have to score the first goal so you put the pressure on the opponent. If you don’t take your chances, the opponent only needs one shot to go ahead.

“It is something we have to work on. We can build on the performance because there is consistency, but we need the result and the reward.” Hot-shot Adam Armstrong, with his 13th of the campaign, and Sam Gallagher (above) bagged the goals to win it for Rovers.

“It was a tough game, but we found a way to win and we move on to the next one,” said boss Tony Mowbray.

“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy. Barnsley are a talented team and their front three made it really difficult for us.

“Adam Armstrong did what he does and he keeps banging them in.”

Armstrong fired Rovers ahead a minute before half-time after slotting home from close range.

Gallagher doubled Rovers’ advantage on 77 minutes after drilling home from outside the box.

Palmer gave the Tykes late hope when he rifled a loose ball high into the net on 90 minutes. 6 ........
