Wonder save denies Millers
DOM-INANT Dominic Solanke rises high to level for Bournemouth
ASMIR BEGOVIC produced one of the saves of the season to secure a point for promotion- chasing Bournemouth in a see-saw contest.
The ex-Chelsea keeper had already foiled Rotherham on several occasions when, on 67 minutes, he flung himself to his right to keep out Angus McDon a l d ’ s scissors- kick with an outstretched hand.
Earlier in the second half the Bosnian, 33, had brilliantly kept out Jamie Lindsey’s volley only for Freddie Ladapo to find the net for the second time with a chip from the tightest of angles.
The Cherries’ only defeat of the season was at Sheffield Wednesday and they looked to be heading for another unhappy afternoon in South Yorkshire. That was until Dominic Solanke nodded home his fifth goal of the campaign.
“It was an ugly game with no real flow and I didn’t enjoy it but we showed great character to come back from 2-1 down,” said Bournemouth boss Jason Tindall.
“But I’m disappointed we didn’t come away with a win.”
Paul Warne couldn’t celebrate his fourth anniversary in charge of the Milliers with a victory but said: “That’s our most complete 90 minutes of the season.
“From start to finish I was really pleased.
“I thought conceding that penalty might have affected them but we definitely deserved a point against probably the best team in the league, and their keeper was the man of the match.”
Rotherham had gifted the visitors their 20th minute penalty.
Solanke was going away from goal when keeper Jamal Blackman bundled him to the ground.
Jun i o r Stanislas maintained his 100 per cent record from the penalty spot with his seventh successful conversion for the Cherries.
Rotherham responded well and were level in the 37th minute when the Bournemouth defence switched off, allowing L a d apo to meet Mattock’s centre with a tidy finish.
And the Cherries bench reacted furiously when Matt Olosunde appeared to tug at Stanislas’ shirt before making a goalsaving tackle, the referee gaving him the benefit of the doubt.
“Even their staf f admitted it was a foul,” added Tindall.
