Be a three spirit – and help charities

-

Tuesday this week was “Giving Tuesday” if you didn’t know – and, in my job at NatWest, colleagues and I were doing what we could to ensure others “gave” what they were able to not just on the day but hopefully with an enduring legacy.

The problem with the word “give” is that we as a society see that primarily as money – and while every charity won’t say no to any extra cash, Giving Tuesday is about so much more because giving should be seen as a trinity of your voice, your time and, if you can, your money.

How did I try to achieve those three things this week?

I used my voice to speak to others via online presentations to spread the word about prostate cancer and living the best life you can right here and right now.

I used my time in helping a friend, who is taking on a transatlantic row as part of a team of four, to get involved with Prostate Cancer UK to maximise the opportunities for all.

Finally, for the money side, I continued my running training to enable me to promote my fundraising for my next race (Covid allowing) in January.

I never used to be like this because it has taken six years of gradually increasing my commitment to get where I am now. But I have not finished yet either as I know there is still much more that I can do.

So whatever your circumstances I hope you too try to achieve at least one of the trinity next week and beyond – because not only are you doing an amazing thing for others, but also you will give yourself a better sense of self-worth.

And that is a great thing to take into the Christmas period in these challenging times.

Until next week

Kev

You’ll can do an amazing thing for others – and also for your self-worth
