NUNO: MAKE A TEAM FIT FOR RAUL’S RETURN
OPTIONS OPEN Nuno could sign a temporary replacement for Jimenez
NUNO ESPIRITO SANTO has urged Wolves to “move on” from Raul Jimenez’s horror injury – and create a team fit for him to return to.
Conor Coady & Co proved to the Molineux chief that they could cope without the Mexican as they came from behind to defeat Chelsea in midweek. Strike star
Jimenez has made a welcome return to the club after his awful clash of heads with David Luiz during the 2-1 victory over Arsenal three weeks ago.
The club’s main scorer suffered a fractured skull, but should, in time, be able to play again.
His boss has confirmed that the club will be in the market for a replacement next month, but he says the challenge for the rest of his players is to live up to the standards the 29-year-old helped to set.
Nuno said: “Raul is improving – we’re very pleased with that – he was with us again today.
“It’s going to take time before he’s the same as he was before. We have patience. We respect the protocols of the doctors. It was a traumatic situation.
“What’s important is that we move on as a group and be ready so that when he returns he finds himself in a very good team.”
Jimenez was touted for a £50million move to Manchester United in the summer and his loss now leaves a significant hole.
With super-agent Jorge Mendes heavily involved in their recruitment, it would be a major surprise if Wolves did not have something up their sleeve.
Nuno said: “We will look at strengthening when the moment comes.
“The ownership’s message was for us to improve – step by step, season by season.
“That’s the best message you can receive. They want to improve. It’s up to us to deliver.”
Wolves returned to their familiar three-man rearguard against Chelsea and the victory followed.
Nuno had toyed with a four-man defence – and has not ruled it out ahead of the trip to Burnley.
He added: “There’s no plan regarding a back three or back four.
“Every game, every circumstance, you have to find solutions.
“The idea is to become more versatile as a team so we can avoid being predictable when we face different opponents.”
