MARCELO’S IN THE RISK BUSINESS..

- STEVE BATES

MARCELO BIELSA won’t park the Leeds bus at Old Trafford today to stop Manchester United’s rampaging strike force.

And, although he admits it is “risky”,

Bielsa intends to fight fire with fire by attacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s stars from the start.

The Argentine coach (above) recognises the danger of the speed and creativity posed by Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood.

But he insists sitting back to nullify United’s threat is not an option.

Bielsa said: “We don’t ignore the height of some of the United players or the quality of their set-pieces.

“Nor do we ignore their attackers and how they take advantage of wide open spaces – like we saw the other night at Sheffield United.

“But we’re going to try to use our resources and hope they are enough, without changing our style, to deal with their counter-attacks and threat from set-pieces.

“There’s a very safe way of doing this by playing a neutral game, with us playing in our own half so there are no counter-attacks.

“But we aren’t prepared to do that. We’re prepared to avoid their counter-attack using a much riskier approach while we try to play our own game.”

Bielsa has no specific plan to man-mark Fernandes out of the game, saying: “You could ask the same question about a number of United’s other players, not just Fernandes.

“Of course, in each match the managers of both teams know the strengths of their opponents and have plans to neutralise them.

“Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.”
