Barca draw hits La Liga title hopes

LIONEL MESSI equalled Brazil legend Pele’s record of 643 goals for a single club in Barcelona’s draw with Valencia.

The Argentine’s milestone arrived via a diving header just before half-time and after his penalty was saved by Valencia keeper Jaume Domenech.

Messi scored his first goal for Barca way back in 2005 against Albacete while Pele’s haul was for Brazilian side Santos between

1956 and 1974 .

Despite Messi’s record-breaking strike, it was another setback to Barcelona’s La Liga title chances.

Barca were trying to make it three straight wins but poor defending cost them again as honours ended even at the Nou Camp.

Boss Ronald Koeman said: “We have not said goodbye to the league yet. There is a long way to go and it’s a very complicate­d season for all the

The hosts fell behind when Mouctar Diakhaby headed home a Carlos Soler corner in the 29t 29th minute.

Barc Barca earned a penalty towar towards the end of the first half half. Messi saw his spotkic kick saved by Domenech b but Jordi Alba kept the b ball alive and Messi headed in for the landmark goal.

Defender Ronald Araujo then gave Barca t the lead early in the second se half. But Valencia gra grabbed a draw when Maxi Gomez turned in a cross fr from Jose Gaya.
