MAGDALENA Lesicka’s mother has blasted the early release of the man who drove her daughter to kill her toddler grandson.

Iwona, 61, says Peter Chilvers should have stayed in jail because he has never shown remorse for the controlling behaviour that led to 23-month-old James’s death.

Horrified at our picture of Chilvers out of prison carrying his child, she said: “It is very difficult for me. I was in court and testified and it did not help much.

“I don’t think it’s fair that he is going free. My daughter is still serving her sentence and he is being released.” In disbelief she added: “And now he has two children?

“We loved that child more than life, and so did my daughter. I don’t think he feels any guilt.”

From her home in Wronki, near the Polish city of Poznan, Iwona spoke of their toxic relationship. She said: “My daughter asked him to leave and he continued to intimidate her and threatened to take the child.

“She tried to kill herself. We are constantly under stress about whether she will get through it all.

“He was only sentenced to a year and a half because he had money for attorneys.”

In the days before the killing, while Chilvers was working, Magdalena made internet searches about ‘taser UK law’, ‘self defence weapons UK’ and ‘killing in self defence’ before she later contacted domestic abuse charity Women’s Aid.

She also phoned Greater Manchester Police and two officers were sent to her home. She showed them bruises to her arms and thigh. She was informed the next day that Chilvers would be arrested after he flew back to the UK and a scared Magdalena said she did not want that to happen. However she was told it was police policy to take positive action over such allegations. That night she stabbed James to death and tried to end her own life.

Iwona said: “I knew it was going bad. I found out a year and a half before the tragedy and I wanted him to go away.

“But she was addicted to him.

“And yet she would have managed without him. I would’ve helped. He hated me because he knew I was against him.”

Magdalena was jailed for 15 years in July 2018 – meaning her earliest release date is 2026 when she will have served half her sentence.
