Addicks in late show

ANDREW SHINNIE’S late strike saw Charlton battle back to grab a point – but manager Lee Bowyer was more frustrated at his side’s poor defending.

The Addicks boss was angry his defence gave them a mountain to climb.

Goals by Hallam Hope and Matty Palmer saw strugglers Swindon lead

2-0 at half-time.

But after Chuks Aneke pulled one back, Shinnie fired in a late equaliser.

“The players deserve credit, they kept going and going until the end, but we should win the game comfortably,” said Bowyer.

“We can’t keep giving teams goals – as we aren’t going to score two, three or four goals every game.

“We were unlucky. We created a lot of chances.”

Swindon were in front after five minutes when Hope collected the ball on the left wing, cut in and let fly with a shot that went under Ben Amos’s body.

Liam Millar’s free-kick hit the top of the crossbar but it was Swindon who extended their lead.

Diallang Jaiyesimi and Hope combined to set up Matty Palmer to fire in from the edge of the area, via a deflection, on 39 minutes.

Charlton reduced the lead in the 57th minute when Aneke headed in Miller’s cross from close range and Ronnie Schwartz had the ball in the net moments later but was flagged offside.

Aneke hammered a loose ball against the crossbar but as Charlton pushed forward, they were caught on the break and Jaiyesimi had a shot come back off the post with Amos stranded.

But with a minute remaining, Jake ForsterCaskey fired the ball into the area, where Shinnie (above) controlled it before netting in the corner.

Conor Washington had a glorious chance to win it for Charlton in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

But after running clear of the Swindon defence and rounding goalkeeper Mark Travers, the Northern Ireland striker fired into the side netting.
