The taming of City’s ‘Mr Angry’

- MATT BOZEAT

WHAT makes Leicester’s Mr Angry blow his top?

Foxes keeper Kasper Schmeichel is famous for his rants at defenders and referees – as well as his spectacular saves.

Former team-mate Lee Hughes revealed what the 34-year-old Dane hates most of all.

Hughes and Schmeichel were in the Notts County side put together by Sven-Goran Eriksson with the backing of Munto Finance money.

The Magpies romped to the League Two title in 2009-2010 by a 10-point margin, with Hughes netting 30 goals and Schmeichel keeping 24 clean sheets in 43 games.

The Leicester legend made his 400th appearance for the club last week, and Hughes said: “In training, Kasper was unbelievable. You had to hit it right in the corner to get it past him.

“He was so hard to beat and when you did beat him, you had to let him know – especially if you lobbed him.

“He would hate it! The ball would end up going two pitches down !”

Hughes remembers Schmeichel as “one of the best blokes I’ve ever met” but admits that at first, they didn’t see eye to eye.

Hughes added: “When Kasper first came in, he was a nice lad, but we didn’t agree on a few things. I didn’t agree with him coming out of the area shouting. I thought he was doing it for the crowd.

“I thought he was a bit above himself when he arrived because he came from Manchester City.

“Me and Luke Rodgers gave him a little chat, and after that he was the best bloke I have ever met – just one of the lads.”
