RETAIL THERAPIES

■■Health-conscious cooks can make Sunday roasts healthier with Lakeland’s Gravy Fat Skimmer Jug with Strainer (£7.99, lakeland.co.uk), which makes separating meat juices fuss free. As it cools, fat rises to the top, so the low spout allows the gravy juices to be poured out from underneath.

■■If your little ones have spent more time plugged into tablets and music during lockdown, make sure you’re looking after delicate ears with Yoto Headphones (£24.99, yotoplay.com). They have a kid-safe volume-limiting, adjustable headband and a daisy chain feature which allows children to listen together.

■■Sustainable brand Smalls Merino is aiming to bring the vest back – and heaven knows we all need a little stylish help to keep heating bills down now. Made of lightweight, supersoft 100% merino wool, their EverCami (£55, smallsmerino.co.uk) is luxurious and comfy for day and naturally regulates body temperature at night.

■■Prepared in a rich tomato sauce, with a warming kick thanks to the addition of jalapeños and paprika, Merchant Gourmet’s Spicy Cajun-Style Lentils and Red Kidney Beans (£2, Ocado) is a great source of fibre. It can be used as a speedy topping for jacket potatoes or replace meat in burritos and tacos.

The jewel in Arizona’s crown is the dramatic Grand Canyon National Park. It’s so deep, you could pile four 1,300ft buildings on top of each other and you still wouldn’t reach the rim. There’s various ways to explore it including a guided bike tour, by foot, paddling down the Colorado River, or even by mule.

However the most dramatic way to take it all in is by helicopter. You’ll dip and dive over the deepest and widest parts of the South Rim enabling you to see these beautiful rock formations close up.

The jewel in the crown of California’s national parks is Yosemite, which was discovered 1855 and declared a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1984. Its big showpieces are the Half Dome, the 9,000ft peak. If you’re fit you may like to hike it, which is a 12-hour round trip.

The next big crowd puller is the dramatic rock formation El Capitan, the largest single granite rock on Earth.

And in Mariposa Grove you’ll find the 500 giant sequoia trees which are among the oldest living organisms on Earth.

You can even stay in delightful cabins set among them.
