Benefit Brits struggling to afford meals
MANY people on benefits are too poor to know where their next meal is coming from, Government figures have revealed.
Over 40% of those on Universal Credit are “food insecure” and do not think they can afford nutritious food, an Office for National Statistics poll found.
The survey showed that 37% on Jobseekers’ Allowance go hungry along with 31% of those on benefits such as housing allowance.
Some 29% of families in single parent homes did not have enough money to feed the kids last year.
And more than 94% of respondents worried their food would run out before they can afford more.
Shadow Cabinet member Luke Pollard said: “This is a grim symbol of a decade of the Tories.”
