Searching through an old drawer, I found this picture.

It’s either an old publicity shot from my early days of stand-up, around 1925… or it’s from a time I’ve forgotten, when I was a model for a barbers called Toni.

My memory of being whatever age I was is that I was screaming the words to angry songs by groups such as the Dead Kennedys, and was planning to take over the world by telling a joke so powerful that every government resigned.

But clearly in reality I was singing a medley of Engelbert Humperdinc­k classics on a cruise ship – one that, right now, is stuck somewhere

up the Suez Canal…
