Minority deserves respect
This week is Transgender Visibility Week, leading to Transgender Day of Visibility on Wednesday.
The campaign aims to raise awareness of the trans community and to help others engage with members with respectful terminology to overcome any embarrassment or offence.
Language is incredibly important when talking about marginalised communities. Common mistakes include using the wrong pronouns or deadnaming someone.
It’s also important that people don’t ask about surgeries/private parts unless explicitly invited to do so.
It’s only through learning and understanding that minority communities can feel safe and happy.
That is the right of every human being – because trans rights are human rights.
