Serpent comes crawling for film deal with Branson

Psychopath’s bizarre movie claim

- DAN WARBURTON

A SERIAL killer whose spree inspired TV drama The Serpent is trying to slither his way into Hollywood.

In an astonishing interview from his cell in Nepal, Charles Sobhraj says he wants Virgin tycoon Sir Richard Branson and the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to bankroll a movie.

Frenchman Sobhraj, 76, is serving 20 years for a double murder but is suspected of killing more than 20.

Yet during a series of calls from Kathmandu’s rat-infested Central Jail, he still maintains he is innocent and even whines that he has been denied seven million euros in compensation for “illegal imprisonment”.

He tells the Sunday Mirror: “I’m absolutely innocent in these cases. I’m being released in three to four weeks. If you wish you can come and do an interview and then go back with me on the same flight. I will be released in full. We can make an arrangement but you must give me two services.

“Richard Branson and Mackenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Jeff Bezos. She has two secretaries. If you can get me the number of a secretary in DC and also for Richard. I was in contact with Richard Branson a couple of months back.

“I want to propose a movie deal. My book is going to be published in about one month. We can have a meeting and an interview and whatever you want. At the time of my release we will fly back.”

His outbursts come in the wake of the transatlantic success of BBC series The Serpent, which catalogued his crooked gem dealing – and his murders.

He left a trail of bodies across South East Asia, targeting backpackers in the 1970s and 1980s.

More than 31 million Brits have watched the drama in which the killer is played by French actor Tahar Rahim and his FrenchCanadian lover, Marie-Andrée Leclerc, is played by British actress Jenna Coleman,

of Doctor Who fame.
