Minister’s apology: UK hasn’t talked to UN about princess
A FOREIGN Office minister has apologised for wrongly claiming that the UK had raised concerns with the UN over Princess Latifa.
Lord Stephen Parkinson admitted: “The UK has no involvement in this… I am sorry for my error.”
Amid suggestions that Britain was turning a blind eye, Parkinson had assured peers that the Government had raised the plight of the Dubai princess, who released secretly recorded messages last month claiming she was being held by her father Sheikh Mohammed against her will.
Lib Dem peer Baroness Lindsay Northover said: “It is astonishing that the UK has not raised this case with the UAE, but even more astonishing that they now admit that they have not even done so with the UN commissioner on human rights.”
